"Shanghai Center for Complex Physics (SCCP)" is being set up at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Shanghai Jiao Tong University evolved from Nanyang School, established in 1896, and is now one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. The Physics Department at SJTU has more than 100 faculty/staff members, nearly 300 undergraduate students and around 200 graduate students. The departments pursues research programs in almost all traditional areas of physics, with world-class research efforts in ultrahigh power laser physics, topological quantum materials, high-Tc superconductor power tapes, and a newly established institute focusing in particle physics, cosmology, and dark matter search.

The central goals of the SCCP are to explore research frontiers of complex systems, especially at the interface between condensed matter physics and quantum information, and to educate young physicists. The mission statement of the SCCP reads: We propose to combine theoretical and experimental techniques drawn both from traditional condensed matter physics and from the newer field of quantum information to study the properties of new quantum materials possessing interesting complex physics, such as topological insulators, topological superconductors, high temperature superconductors, and other strongly entangled many-body systems, and to pursue graduate and undergraduate education.
